FREE TIPS ON STRESS MANAGEMENT

Have you ever walked the floor with your screaming baby over your shoulder, wondering if it's colic, teething or fever? How can you help?

Wouldn't you feel more secure if you could reach for information and look up the symptoms? Sometimes you lose so much sleep and become so stressed you think you will go crazy? It's a wonder you can cope!

All parents, nannies and carers need stress relief in this and many other situations.

The easiest and most effortless way to relax is through your breathing and this breathing exercise can be practiced in any position. Even if you have a baby over your shoulder.

Get as comfortable as possible, close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing - in and out, in and out. As you breathe out think 'relax' and drop your shoulders. In and relax, out and relax.

Feel the energy giving oxygen spreading through your body, relaxing all your muscles, calming and soothing your nerves and you will probably find it also has a calming effect on the baby. Try a few neck rolls or backward and forward shoulder rolls to relieve tension. When one is tense the shoulders seem to rise up and forward, so one must deliberately relax them down.

Other simple tricks to relax facial muscles include yawning, licking the lips, laughing or pulling funny faces. Stretching your whole body or massaging tense areas will also help.

If you are walking around the room with baby, you may also like to try bouncing lightly on the balls of your feet, as champion tennis players do before receiving a serve. Visualise yourself as confident, relaxed and in control, with baby asleep on your shoulder.

To help the babies sleep, some Nannies softly play them a tape of repetitive household noise such as a washing machine or dishwasher. You may be surprised how quickly they settle. Now you are relaxed you can order the Nanny's Super Bible!
